Maserati is celebrating its 111th anniversary

Maserati celebrates its 111th birthday ahead of another significant milestone.

Maserati has had a lot to celebrate lately. The “Maserati Meccanica Lirica” recently celebrated the return of production of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio to the historic Maserati factory Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena. Next year, the iconic trident that serves as Maserati’s logo will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Coinciding with its motorsport debut, the Trident is one of the most integral and recognizable parts of the iconic Maserati brand, and its 100th anniversary is eagerly awaited by the manufacturer.

However, there is even more reason to celebrate as the 111th anniversary of Maserati itself is just around the corner, as since its founding by brothers Ettore, Ernesto and Alfieri Maserati in 1914, Maserati has been the oldest manufacturer in Italy’s legendary Motor Valley. Her other brother Mario eventually designed the Trident, which was inspired by the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna, and her last brother Bindo joined Oficine Maserati in 1932.

The first car to wear the iconic Maserati trident was the Tipo 26, which debuted in the 1926 Targa Florio race and took first place in the up to 1.5 liter class, and Alfieri Maserati himself was at the wheel. Maserati’s motorsport legacy then included victories at the Indianapolis 500, the Targa Florio, Formula 1, victories with the MC12 and the new GT2 in the modern era.

As Maserati celebrates a century of motorsport heritage and the Trident, as well as the manufacturer’s 111th anniversary overall, next year will be one of the most exciting for a legendary Italian luxury manufacturer whose celebrated pedigree continues to grow.
