Jacobo wants to be the car of choice for man’s best friend.
The Chery spin-off brand recently received certification from Germany’s transport agency TÜV SÜD, which it says defines the brand to come Jaecoo J5 Compact SUV, the world’s first pet-friendly car.
The J5 features a unique silicone-based seat cover material specifically designed for pet owners as it is both antibacterial and scratch-resistant.

To achieve TÜV SÜD certification, the material was subjected to 32 separate laboratory tests to demonstrate its resistance and durability.
And now Jaecoo says the pet-friendly badge is a unique offering that will be a key element in all of the company’s future vehicles.
“This is a very proud moment for me and will be something unique for Jaecoo,” said Shawn Xu, CEO of the Omoda Jaecoo brand Daily Sparkz during an exclusive interview last week at the company’s Chinese headquarters in Wuhu.
“Jaecoo is a brand for outdoor people, and they need to enjoy this with their friends, their children and also their pets. That’s what Jaecoo means for everyone, including dogs.”

Mr Xu said the idea arose from customer feedback during a trip to Poland last year.
“As I travel to many countries, we listen a lot to what the customer says about our cars,” he explained.
“I was in a car dealership in Poland and saw a young couple come in to look at our car and I asked them why. The customer said their current car wasn’t big enough for their dog and they wanted to find something new that would be suitable.
“When I came back to China, I asked our engineering team, ‘Okay, how can we develop the Jaecoo J5 that makes the car suitable for other people’s pets?'”
The end result, after more than 1000 hours of research and development, is a new organic silicone-based seat material that has been proven to be twice as resistant to damage and scratches while maintaining a soft, skin-like texture even in extreme weather conditions.
