Genesis’ new flagship SUV gets Rolls-Royce style doors

genesis will crown its SUV lineup with a new three-row flagship model that is expected to bear the name gv90and it will look very similar to the concept car it was introduced with – right down to its novel doors.

In 2024, Genesis introduced its flagship SUV with the Neolun concept, which does away with a B-pillar and two rear-hinged rear doors.

While bus doors are common on concept cars, they tend to disappear once a vehicle goes into production. However, Genesis said at the time that the door configuration had “reached a level where its application to production vehicles is now feasible.”

Well, as these spy photos show, Genesis has figured out how to design a production SUV without a B-pillar and with two rear-hinged coach doors without negatively affecting structural rigidity or refinement.

Even the Rolls-Royce Cullinan still has a B-pillar despite having Coach doors.

The Neolun concept also featured a four-seat configuration with swivel front seats and electrically deployable side steps. It is unclear whether these features will be available in the production vehicle.

The production car is said to closely resemble the concept on the outside, with a boxy yet rounded body and a straight roofline that is likely to maximize headroom for all occupants. Visible are two-stage front, side and rear lighting elements, a signature design element of Genesis.

This spy prototype also features a blue interior, which Genesis offers on many of its vehicles. The tufted inserts on the doors are also reminiscent of the Neolon concept.

The production GV90 is expected to offer electric propulsion, although Genesis has deviated from its previously stated goal of going exclusively electric by 2030.

It’s unclear whether the GV90 – which is expected to use the upcoming eM platform with an 800-volt electrical architecture – will offer other powertrains.

Genesis will launch its first hybrid and EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) models in the next few years.

The Korean luxury brand confirmed this year that it is also working on a new platform that will launch in 2028 and will support hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles and EREVs.

The GV90 isn’t the only new Genesis SUV in the pipeline.

Genesis also plans to produce the X Gran Equator off-roader concept, which was unveiled earlier this year.
