2026 Lepas L4 small electric SUV revealed

Lepas unveiled two new electric vehicles (EVs) at the 2026 Auto China Motor Show in Beijing, where battery-electric versions of the L4 small SUVs and large L6 SUVs made their world debut.

Lepas (pronounced “lee pas”) is a premium brand from Chinese car manufacturer Chery and is scheduled to launch in Australia with at least six models in mid-2026.

Having already shown off the L8 hybrid-powered large SUV, the automaker announced that it will introduce models badged from L1 to L9, with each number corresponding to an enlargement.

Similar in size to the Toyota RAV4, the L6 was first shown at Milan Fashion Week in Italy and was confirmed to have a 67kWh battery and a range of 435km on the WLTC cycle.

The smaller L4 had previously been unveiled with petrol engines, with the Beijing show car providing a first look at the battery-electric version as part of the brand’s multi-powertrain strategy.

None of the new electric vehicles have been officially confirmed for Australian showrooms. On the Lepas Australia website, only the L8 Super Hybrid is displayed above two SUV silhouettes with the word “Coming Soon”.

The Lepas L4 is a compact SUV based on the same underpinnings as the Chery Tiggo 4, which competes with the Mahindra XUV 3XO and is one of the cheapest SUVs available in Australia.

The L4 is approximately 4406mm long, 1820mm wide and 1635mm high with a wheelbase of 2700mm. This makes it similar in size to the Toyota Yaris Cross and the Volkswagen T-Cross.
