The heavily revised first generation Atto 3 WORLD has yet to hit Australian showrooms, and the second-generation car has already been revealed 2026 Beijing Motor Show.
Longer and taller, the new Atto 3 also features a sharper and edgier design than the existing car, with the ‘dragon face’ front end tying the two generations together.
Like the exterior, the interior design appears a little more mature, but the barrel-shaped vents with vertical chrome fins provide a sense of continuity between generations.
Thanks to China’s impending ban on Tesla-style flush door handles, the Yuan Plus features a semi-concealed flush unit.

The new Yuan Plus/Atto 3 is 4665 mm long, 1895 mm wide, 1675 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2770 mm. This makes it 210mm longer, 20mm wider and 60mm taller than the current car, all on a 50mm longer wheelbase.
BYD says the boot can hold 750 liters of gear – likely measured to the roof – while the boot under the bonnet can hold up to 180 litres. The electrically operated trunk can be opened with a “simple tap of the finger,” which is said to be a relief when your hands are full with shopping.
When launched in China, the Yuan Plus will be available with two powertrain and battery combinations, both with a single motor driving the rear wheels and second-generation Blade battery packs. In China, the Yuan Plus works with the company’s flash charging network, which can charge the battery from five to 97 percent in about nine minutes.
Lower trim levels combine a 200kW electric motor with a 57.5kWh battery and 18-inch wheels for an estimated range of 540km under the generous CLTC standard.
Higher-spec models feature a 240 kW motor, 68.5 kWh battery and 19-inch wheels for an estimated CLTC range of 630 km.
For comparison, the facelifted first-generation Atto 3, which has just launched in the UK, is available in 230kW/380Nm rear-wheel drive and 330kW/560Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive versions. Both are equipped with a 74.8 kWh battery, enabling a WLTP range of 470 km to 510 km.
The top trim levels are available with a 16-speaker sound system, a refrigerator, interior lighting with 256 color options, a wireless smartphone charging pad with a maximum of 50 W and a wired phone charger with a maximum of 60 W. There’s also a passenger seat that reclines further than normal and a panoramic glass roof.
Pricing and timing for the Chinese market has yet to be confirmed, and it seems export markets will have to wait for the second-generation Atto 3 until next year at the earliest.
To illustrate, the facelifted first-generation Atto 3 was unveiled in China in February 2025 and went on sale in the UK in February 2026. However, deliveries there are not scheduled to begin until the second quarter of this year. Although the updated Atto 3 has been approved for sale in Australia, the facelifted model has yet to be launched locally.
