The fastest Ford Mustang ever made, could soon appear Down Under.
While Ford’s local branch has no plans to bring the Mustang GTD to Australia – priced at around 500,000 Australian dollars – the federal government’s Department of Infrastructure has opened a route for personal import of the track-focused model.
The Mustang GTD is powered by a 5.2-litre supercharged V8 engine producing 608kW and 900Nm, driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission – providing a near 50:50 weight distribution for improved driving dynamics.

But although Ford has confirmed that the track-focused model will not be sold through the company’s Australian branch, the Mustang GTD is now ready to be introduced after being added to the Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles Register, which allows personal importation of rare and high-performance vehicles.
Although there are several exceptions, vehicles less than 25 years old generally cannot be imported into Australia as a private import, sometimes referred to as a “grey” import.
Multimatic is expected to produce fewer than 2,000 vehicles in Canada for Ford – the same company responsible for producing the second-generation Ford GT supercar and the GT3 and GT4-spec Mustang racers.
However, Ford has banned buyers of the Mustang GTD from selling their vehicles within two years of receiving them to discourage speculators from immediately selling the cars for a profit.
Daily Sparkz It is understood that an Australian collector secured a factory allocation of the GTD and was likely the driving force behind the approval.
Although the vehicle was able to meet local registration requirements, Ford currently only makes the Mustang GTD in left-hand drive – meaning the vehicle is likely to remain an unregistered, track-only vehicle in most Australian states and territories.
