MG Australia is committed to offering an updated version of the existing one MG 4 Electric (or MG 4 EV in some markets) alongside the all-new MG 4 EV Urban, with an updated model set to be unveiled “very soon,” according to brand representatives.
Meng Chen, Head of Product at MG Motor Australia, told the media at the launch of the 2026 MG 4 EV Urban that the brand will continue with the rear-wheel drive MG 4 Electric alongside the new MG 4 EV Urban.
“(We will use a) dual-car strategy (for) the MG 4, and we have – very soon – another launch for the ‘old’ MG 4. We will do a facelift for this vehicle,” Mr Chen said.

Beyond confirming the impending arrival of the updated model, MG’s product boss pointed out that we can expect an updated interior with more physical switches in line with the MG 4 EV Urban and MG S5 EV, as well as a restructured model range to ensure there is not too much overlap with the new Urban price leader.
The 2026 MG 4 EV is already available in the UK alongside the Urban, with the RWD electric hatchback starting at £3,000 (A$5,700) more expensive than the most expensive MG 4 EV Urban.
It is available there in three equipment variants with 64 kWh and 77 kWh batteries depending on the variant; The pre-facelift’s entry-level 51kWh battery is not available in the UK.
As pictured above, it gets a revised interior with more physical controls and a traditional center console, as well as a driver instrument cluster housed in a more conventional housing compared to the previous version’s freestanding unit.
Beyond that, however, the batteries and electric motors appear to be fairly similar.
The Premium Long Range features a 140kW/350Nm permanent synchronous electric motor on the rear axle, connected to a 64kWh LFP battery with 61.7kWh of usable capacity.
Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes place in 7.5 seconds, and the WLTP range is a combined 452 km or up to 618 km in the city cycle.
The MG 4 EV “Premium Extended Range” in the UK sees the base LFP battery swapped for a larger 77kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) unit with a usable capacity of 74.4kWh.
It also has a more powerful 180 kW/350 Nm electric motor on the rear axle, which ensures an almost “hot hatch”-like sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and a combined WLTP range of 545 km – or up to 817 km in city traffic.
Finally, at the top of the British model range is the powerful MG 4 EV
The claimed 0-100km/h time remains a brisk 3.8 seconds, while the combined range on the WLTP test cycle is 405km – or up to 548km on the city cycle.
DC charging rates range from 140 kW (XPower) to 154 kW (Long Range 64 kWh), with combined energy efficiency ranging from 16.1 kWh/100 km (Extended Range 77 kWh) to 19.0 kWh/100 km (XPower).
Standard features on the base model include LED headlights and taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels with aero covers, synthetic leather and cloth upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, 360-degree parking cameras, 10.25-inch and 12.8-inch HD driver and infotainment displays, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Stepping up to the XPower brings faux leather/suede sports seats, a two-tone exterior paint finish and unique alloy wheels with orange brake calipers.
Expect a similar range to launch in Australia later this year, likely starting at around $40,000 drive-away to make room for the MG 4 EV Urban, which tops out at $34,990 drive-away for the long-range Essence 54 model.
