The iPhone 18 Pro may be missing out on the one color fans have been longing for

Apple has been on a full-blown color spree since releasing the iPhone 17 series, and honestly, I’m still trying to process it. A bright orange iPhone? This is not to be expected in a time obsessed with muted tones and minimalism. It feels brave, even a little rebellious. And every time I see it I ask myself: Who is this really for? But then again, I’ve seen people confidently wear this color in the wild, and that answers the question better than anything else. Maybe that’s exactly the point.

What’s even more fascinating is that this playful streak doesn’t seem to be an isolated incident. Rumor (loud Instantly digital / Weibo) assumes that the iPhone 18 Pro series relies just as much, if not more, on colors. But here’s where it hurts a little: the whispers about Apple potentially ditching the black color option for the 18 Pro range. That hurts. Black is not just a color, it is a comfort zone, a classic, a sure thing that you never doubt. For someone like me, this absence feels strangely personal, like losing something familiar that you didn’t know you were so attached to.

Apple, please don’t break my heart like that

Apple has left out a black color option on the iPhone 17 Pro series and I’ve made peace with it. Fine, I thought, I’ll just wait and see. The iPhone 18 Pro series will fix this problem. After all, patience is a virtue, or so I told myself. Well, it turns out that patience led me right back to disappointment. According to Instant Digital’s leaks on Weibo, Apple is experimenting with “traditional” finishes and even a deep shade of red this time around, with Mark Gurman supporting the talk. Definitely sounds exciting. But somehow, in all these experiments, black, the most timeless and straightforward option of all, seems to have been left out again. And that’s what hurts.

Because with the 17 Pro’s redesigned camera island, you just know that a black finish would have looked incredibly good. The kind of design that doesn’t scream for attention, but still gets it. Instead, here we’re imagining what could have been, which is honestly the worst place to be as a fan of something so simple yet so perfect. I wish I could brush it off, but I can’t. There’s something about black as a color that just feels… right. It’s reliable, it ages well, it never tries too hard. And watching it quietly disappear from something as iconic as an iPhone feels less like a design decision and more like a minor heartbreak that I wasn’t prepared for.
