Czech car manufacturer Skoda is failing to meet its electric vehicle (EV) sales targets in Australia and will need to effectively double deliveries so the brand can withstand the pressure of new emissions regulations.
Skoda’s two electric vehicles Down Under – the Elroq and Enyaq SUVs – together accounted for 635 sales last year, accounting for 13.2 percent of the 4,808 total deliveries.
This not only placed Skoda 20th in electric vehicle sales in Australia – behind Cupra, Mini and Porsche – but also fell well short of internal targets to combat the Australian government’s New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES).
“It’s not enough, we need more. We need at least 20 per cent to make it work,” Skoda Australia director Lucie Kuhn said Daily Sparkz.

However, the year 2026 started better: Skoda’s total sales rose by 7.8 percent, while electric vehicles now account for 22.4 percent.
And Ms Kuhn expects this trend to continue given recent improvements to the vehicle range and the introduction of new entry-level variants of both electric models.
“Last year we still had the old generation Enyaq, which we really didn’t push too hard into Australia because we knew there was a new generation already out there,” Ms Kuhn said.
“The new generation came out in the second half of the year, so of course we were waiting for some supplies.”
“Now we can start doing more serious deliveries, and deliveries can actually go towards 20 to 30 percent.”
Sales of Skoda electric vehicles could also benefit from the current fuel crisis in Australia – the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has led to a significant increase in fuel prices over the past month, and some petrol stations have even run out of fuel.
As a result, dealers have seen a surge in demand for electric vehicles, which may continue for a while depending on how long the war lasts.
Looking further ahead, Skoda has confirmed two all-new electric SUVs for launch in 2026, including the entry-level Epiq and the Peaq – a production version of the Vision 7S concept. Both are expected to be sold here, although the launch date has yet to be confirmed.
“We are currently in discussions and negotiations with Global to bring these models to Australia as quickly as possible,” Ms Kuhn confirmed.
