Tesla’s new Roadster could finally hit the market next month, but the emphasis is on “hopefully”

Tesla’s actual announcement of the next Roadster is becoming more of a meme than reality at this point. Even Elon Musk has agreed to the unveiling date of April 1, 2026. But the road set appears to be back in the spotlight, with Elon hinting at the reveal next month.

In a recent tweet, Musk said the long-awaited electric sports car will “hopefully” be unveiled next month, adding that it will “probably” happen at the end of April.

Why this “probably” should concern you

If anything about this sounds familiar, it’s because the next-generation Roadster has been mired in a vicious cycle of ambitious schedules and delays for years. Already at the beginning of November 2025, Tesla suggested April 1st as the unveiling date, which Musk framed with some humor to enable denial.

But with the date now pushed back a little further, there are only two possible outcomes. First, Tesla is finally planning something more concrete for the unveiling; or two, it’s just another series of delays and shifted schedules. And I’m betting on the latter.

Big promises, bigger expectations

As a reminder, the second-generation Tesla Roadster was first announced as a concept in 2017, with an original launch window of 2020. Since then, the release date has been continually pushed back due to changing priorities, technical challenges, and a variety of other reasons.

So the words “hopefully” and “probably” do not inspire confidence at the moment. Nevertheless, the Tesla Roadster could finally be presented next month. But until it actually happens, it’s probably best not to hold your breath.
