The Cupra Formentor VZ5 will be released here in limited numbers, with a turbocharged five-cylinder engine and a high price.
The souped-up small SUV is offered at the price $94,990 before on-road costsor a national drive-away fare of $101,990.
The first allocation will see fewer than 100 Formentor VZ5s coming to Australia, with Cupra dealers currently collecting orders to secure custom build slots for production of the hot SUV.

This production run is scheduled to run from May to December 2026, with Australian deliveries expected between December 2026 and March 2027.
Cupra says it will continue to work with global teams to secure additional volume “should early customer demand exceed expectations.”
The VZ5 is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder petrol engine producing 287kW of power and 480Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The five-cylinder engine is borrowed from Audi, where it is used in the RS3 and its predecessor RSQ3. However, according to Cupra, it has been “recalibrated to deliver an even more emotional, characterful driving experience.”
Performance features include an electro-hydraulic torque vectoring rear differential, adaptive “DCC” dampers and six-piston Akebono front brake calipers.
The VZ5-specific features include:
- 20-inch alloy wheels in black and copper
- Flared wheel arches
- Carbon fiber front splitter with engraved logo
- Rear bumper with carbon fiber insert
- Quad exhausts with copper tips
- Sabelt CUP bucket seats at the front
- Enceladus Gray Sequal and Dinamica upholstery
- Carbon fiber back
The VZ5 will also come with a Sennheiser sound system and a panoramic sunroof as standard, with the only options being paint finishes.
It is offered in a standard, a premium and three matte finishes, with the premium paint costing $790 and the matte paint costing $3,300.
Otherwise, the VZ5 builds on the updated design and components of the mid-life facelift of the Formentor, which was already confirmed to launch locally at the end of the first quarter of 2026.
New exterior design elements include the Cupra brand’s new “Shark Nose” corporate face, which also includes a new triangular LED signature reflected at both the front and rear.
At the rear, the full-length light bar now features an illuminated logo on the tailgate.
Cupra’s current most expensive models are the Terramar VZe midsize plug-in hybrid SUV at $77,990 before on-road costs and the Tavascan VZ midsize electric SUV at $74,490 before on-road costs.
While pricing for the wider 2026 Formentor range has not yet been announced, the pre-update range was priced at $65,790 ahead of the road launch.
