Polestar has announced a rush of new electric vehicles (EVs), including a new generation Polestar 2 and a more practical version of its best-seller, the Tesla Model Y-Rivalling Polestar 4.
The Scandinavian car brand speaks of the “biggest model offensive in its history”, with four new models coming onto the market in three years. Polestar says it is targeting the heart of the market, “where customer demand and profit margins are high.”
Following the launch of the new Polestar 5 Grand Tourer, due to arrive in Australia in mid-2026 and priced from $171,100 before launch, the Geely-owned electric car brand says it will begin delivering a “new variant” of the Polestar 4 in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2026.
A new generation of the long-standing Polestar 2 Liftback will follow in 2027 and its smallest SUV to date, the Polestar 7, in 2028.

Polestar says the new Polestar 4 variant will appeal to a “broader customer base by offering more versatility” and that it will combine “the space of a station wagon and the versatility of an SUV,” recalling Sweden’s tradition of station wagon building.
A teaser image appears to show a rear window and a more upright tailgate.
Spy images posted on Weibo and shared on Reddit give us a better look at the as-yet-unnamed Polestar 4 variant, which features a more conventional SUV silhouette than the existing fastback-style midsize SUV.
Crucially, it also has a rear window – unlike the existing Polestar 4, which is made of sheet metal where a window would normally be, forcing the driver to rely on cameras and the wing mirrors to see behind.
Aside from the more upright rear and window front, the new Polestar 4 variant otherwise looks very similar to its coupe-style SUV sibling, with a similar beltline and full-length taillight bar.
The next Polestar 2 was previewed through frosted glass, but we can still see that it’s low and slim like the Polestar 5. That suggests it won’t sit as high as the current vehicle.
It also carries a version of the brand’s signature two-stage LED daytime running lights, but there’s little else we can figure out at the moment.
The current Tesla Model 3 competitor Polestar 2 went into production in 2020, making it the brand’s oldest model still on sale.
The latest Polestar 7 teaser reveals nothing more about the brand new small SUV, which was previously confirmed to be produced at a new Volvo Cars factory in Slovakia. Aside from the production line, it will have a lot in common with Volvo, with Polestar borrowing key components such as the electric motors from its sister brand.
Polestar expects to grow its global sales volume in the low double digits this year and expand its retail network by 30 percent.
Porsche’s Taycan competitor Polestar 5 is unlikely to contribute much to sales figures given its positioning as the brand’s grand tourer halo model and the fact that it is not sold in either China or the US, the world’s two highest-grossing markets.
Unlike other members of the Polestar range, it will feature a brand-exclusive lightweight bonded aluminum platform.
There’s no word on the previously announced Polestar 6 Cabriolet, whose launch was pushed back last year to after the Polestar 7 in 2028.
Polestar will release its full-year 2025 results tonight, along with financial guidance, but has already confirmed that last year was its best year yet in terms of sales – which isn’t particularly surprising considering the company only launched its first model in 2019 and has recently tripled the size of its range.
It now offers the Polestar 2, the Polestar 4 and the Polestar 3 large SUV. In Australia, sales rose 38.5 percent last year compared to 2024, when deliveries of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 began. Both vehicles, of course, increased their sales in 2025, although the Polestar 2 fell by 48.9 percent.
Polestar sold more than Zeekr, the brand also owned by Geely, but its sister brand is quickly gaining traction after launching the 7X midsize electric SUV in late 2025.
The Chinese-owned Swedish brand has numerous other internal competitors from the Geely empire: its Polestar 5 is said to compete with the Lotus Emeya, and the Polestar 7 is said to compete with the Smart #3.
