AMD appears to be working on an updated version of its Ryzen AI MAX 400 family, codenamed “Gorgon Halo.” According to recent leaks from VideoCardzThe goal of this next-generation update is to provide faster performance for Ryzen-based machines, especially those focused on AI workloads and integrated graphics.
The rumored Gorgon Halo series is essentially a clocked iteration of the current Strix Halo processors with the same core count but higher boost speeds on both the CPU and Radeon iGPU sides. Additionally, there will also be support for faster LPDDR5X-8533 memory to further improve responsiveness and performance in AI-heavy workloads.
What the Gorgon Halo update could bring
Leaked specs from VideoCardz show that the flagship of the range, the Ryzen AI MAX+ 495, could have 16 cores and 32 threads, a base clock of around 3.1 GHz and a peak boost clock of up to 5.2 GHz on the CPU, with the integrated Radeon 8060S GPU clocked at around 3.0 GHz. These numbers represent an increase of approximately 100 MHz over Strix Halo family predecessors, indicating gradual but significant speed improvements for both general tasks and graphics-enabled AI workloads.

Beyond the flagship, the rest of the rumored Gorgon Halo lineup, including models like the Ryzen AI MAX+ 492, Ryzen AI MAX 490, Ryzen AI MAX+ 488, and Ryzen AI MAX 485, would follow a similar pattern. They match the core and thread counts of existing parts, but have small clock boosts and potentially faster memory access thanks to support for LPDDR5X-8533. This faster storage standard could improve overall system responsiveness and ensure AI engines can access data faster.
From a hardware architecture perspective, these parts are expected to retain the current lineup’s Zen 5 CPU cores and integrated RDNA 3.5 graphics designs, meaning the Gorgon Halo update doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but rather optimizes it for better performance. The leaks also suggest that the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) speed could be increased slightly, but exact numbers have not been confirmed.
If these leaks prove accurate, the Gorgon Halo update could arrive later in 2026, giving consumers more reasons to consider Ryzen-based AI Max machines with better integrated AI and graphics performance.
