Gemini just got a major upgrade that allows it to leverage data from other Google apps, including Gmail, Photos, Calendar, Drive, YouTube and Search, to deliver more personalized answers. With its new Personal Intelligence feature, the chatbot can now offer tailored responses that go beyond what you’ve shared in previous chats, making Gemini feel more personal, proactive and useful. But if speed is all you care about, Google is rolling out another new feature.
The model selection in the Gemini app currently allows you to choose between Fast, Thinking and Pro models. The Fast model prioritizes quick answers, while the Thinking and Pro models are better suited for solving complex problems or tackling advanced math or coding questions. For the latter two, it usually takes longer to generate a response. However, Google has now added a button that lets you skip the wait.
Skip in-depth reasoning to get faster answers
According to 9to5Google, users should now see a new “Reply Now” button next to the status bar when using the Thinking or Pro models. Tapping this button will display a confirmation message saying “Skip Deep Thinking” and Gemini will provide a quicker response. This can be particularly useful if you’re looking for a quick answer but don’t want to change models. The “Reply Now” button replaces the previously available “Skip” button.
Interestingly, Gemini does not switch to the Fast model by using this feature. It stays with the selected model, which you can confirm by opening the three-dot overflow menu at the end of the answer. Although it’s not immediately clear how the “Reply Now” button affects the quality of the response, it should come in handy if you’re in a hurry. The Reply Now button is rolling out to the Gemini app for Android and iOS and is also available on the web. It is available to all users, including those on the free tier.
