Student driver caught in Audi TT after explosion at 226 km/h with disqualified supervisor

Victoria Police officers have caught a learner driver allegedly speeding at more than 220km/h on a Melbourne motorway accompanied by a supervisor who had his driving license revoked.

The L-Plater’s Audi TT was stopped by Nunawading Highway Patrol after it was allegedly traveling at 226km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Monash Freeway at around 3am this morning.

The vehicle was intercepted near Jacksons Road in the southeast Melbourne suburb of Mulgrave.

A Victoria Police statement said the 23-year-old L-Plattier’s supervising driver had already been banned from driving, despite the Highway Code requiring a fully licensed driver to sit alongside learner drivers.

Police impounded the Audi TT sports car for 30 days, with impound costs amounting to $1,016.

According to the Victorian Government, the fine for a fully licensed driver exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h is $1,018, having increased from $988 in July 2025.

Such an offense is also associated with an immediate 12-month driving ban.

Victoria Police say the learner driver is expected to face charges of unaccompanied learner driving and speeding. It has not been confirmed what offenses the supervising driver will be charged with.
