Cupra Australia has announced pricing and specifications for the update Formentor SUV lineup ahead of the model’s local launch this month.
At the top of the updated range is a new mild-hybrid ‘S’ variant at the end of the range, which raises the Formentor’s starting price to $53,990 drive away nationwide, lower than the $56,490 drive-away for the Formentor V before the update.
The existing V, VZe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and VZx variants have all been carried over, albeit with minor changes and price increases of around $5,000, depending on the variant.
This means the Formentor has a total of five powertrains, including the flagship five-cylinder VZ5, which will launch in Australia later this year.

“This new Formentor range represents a significant evolution for one of Cupra’s most iconic models,” Cupra Australia brand director Jerome Figuiere said.
“With new powertrains, a bold design language and significant improvements inside and out, it shows exactly where Cupra is going.”
The Formentor S, which opens the range, introduces 48V mild hybrid technology to Cupra’s small SUV for the first time, paired with a 1.5 liter engine with an output of 110 kW. The S has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The refreshed Formentor V, meanwhile, retains its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, albeit with an increased output of 150kW (up from 140kW). It still uses a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and offers all-wheel drive.
However, the biggest upgrade has been made to the Formentor VZe PHEV, which now offers Cupra’s second-generation PHEV technology. That gives a maximum output of 200kW (up from 180kW), along with DC fast charging capability and “almost doubled” battery capacity.
Cupra says this means an all-electric range of “100km+”, a drastic improvement over the previous VZe’s 58km claim.
The performance-oriented VZx hasn’t been neglected either, as it now has an output of 245 kW, 17 kW more than its predecessor. Its all-wheel drive system now also features a torque vectoring rear differential, which is said to make it “more agile, intuitive and spirited in all conditions”.
At the top of the model range is the more exclusive Formentor VZ5, which is powered by a 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine with 287 kW. This engine comes from Audi, where it is used in the RS3 and its predecessor RSQ3.
Externally, the Formentor has received Cupra’s “shark-nose” front end with “characteristic” triangular daytime running lights, matching the rest of the Spanish brand’s current model range.
Its redesigned rear also now sports an illuminated Cupra logo, while most variants get new alloy wheel designs.
In the interior, Cupra has fitted a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and backlit climate and volume controls as standard, as well as a “super sport” steering wheel with integrated start/stop and driving mode buttons.
Further highlights include the “Dinamica” upholstery from Cupra on the S and V variants as well as the electric front seat adjustment with position memory. Depending on the variant, Sennheiser Premium Audio is also available.
Additionally, Cupra has introduced its optional Extreme package for the Formentor VZe ($6,500) and VZx ($7,000), previously only available on the refreshed Leon.
Highlights of the Extreme Package include carbon fiber-backed sport bucket seats, unique upholstery, Akebono or Brembo performance brakes for the VZx and VZe respectively, Matrix LED headlights and dark gloss interior accents instead of copper.
The updated Formentor range will arrive in Australian showrooms in April 2026, before customer deliveries begin at the end of May. Delivery of the flagship VZ5 is expected between December 2026 and March 2027.
