Will there ever be a Real Housewives of Austin?

Rumors have been circulating for years that Bravo is trying to create a reality show based in Austin. And it seems that the show that makes the most sense to most people is this The Real Housewives of Austin. We decided to start the conversation again after speaking with him Watch What Crappers Guys during SXSW.

On the red carpet at the iHeart Podcast Awards, We spoke to Ronnie Karam and Ben Mandelker and asked if there would be a Bravo-style reality show based in Austin, which would be the case. Here’s what they had to say.

“They tried to find a housewife here and I don’t know why they can’t get one.” Karam says. “There are so many idiots here now. Why not?”

Mandelker jumps in and adds: “That’s a requirement.”

Karam continues, “It’s really grown in the last 10 to 20 years. Everyone here complains about the Californians coming in…they really hate the Californians here.”

His suggestion is to cast half the freshmen and mix them with half the old-school Austinites. Then, he says, “just watch the sparks fly.”

Mandelker agrees, adding, “Yeah, a combination of tech versus cowboy, California versus Texas – that would be really good!”

He concludes by stating that he is actually surprised that this hasn’t happened yet.

He is not alone. As mentioned, there has been a lot of talk about a possible show in recent years. Some of the names we’ve heard as possible Housewives include Loreal Sarkissian, Susan Dell and Kendra Scott. With the number of LA transplants here, there are so many options such as: Haylie Duff, Becca Tobin, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Lindsey Morgan, Stacy Keibler and more. Christy Carlson Romano and Annalize Van Der Pol said on their podcast in 2023 that they filmed test footage, but nothing came of it.

If you’re wondering which other celebrities call Austin home, check out our extensive list here.

Personally, I like the idea of newcomers versus old Austin, but I think it would be difficult to get members of the old Austin guard to sign up. Maybe that’s why it hasn’t happened yet.

If you have an idea who would be a good addition to a Real Housewives of Austin series, Comment and let us know here.
