The JSW Indian Open 2026 starts with a bang

Mumbai: The JSW Indian Open 2026 began with high drama on day one as a series of hard-fought encounters marked the action-packed opening day at the CCI in Mumbai.

India’s Om Semwal delivered the outstanding performance of the day in a tense five-game thriller against Mexico’s Sebastian Salazar. In a game that went both ways, Semwal held his nerve in the crucial moments to secure a hard-fought 3-2 win. Equally convincing was Egypt’s Yassin Shohdy, who made a remarkable comeback after losing the first set 10-12. Showing resilience and composure, Shohdy edged France’s Manuel Paquemar 13-11 in a tight second game before taking control and finishing the game 3-1, underlining his fighting spirit.

In another competitive match, Switzerland’s Ambre Allinckx defeated Netherlands’ Tessa ter Sluis 3-1, while Egypt’s Ibrahim Elkabbani scored a solid 3-1 win over India’s Suraj Kumar Chand in a hard-fought battle.

The rest of the day was marked by a series of dominant performances from the top candidates. Hong Kong’s Chi Him Wong beat Ayaan Vaziralli 3-0 while Sofia Mateos secured a convincing back-to-back win against Shameena Riaz. Matthew Lai and Danielle Ray were equally determined and both recorded comfortable 3-0 wins in their respective games to start their season in style.

The excitement continues to build as Day 2 promises another exciting line-up with Indian stars Veer Chotrani, Joshna Chinappa, Anahat Singh, Abhay Singh and Ramit Tandon set to begin their campaigns, much to the anticipation of the home crowd.
