With all the talk surrounding the Alex Cooper/Alix Earle drama, this got us thinking. While this may be the hottest feud between Generation Z and Millennials, what have been the biggest feuds between Generation X and Millennials? We asked our followers for their opinion and narrowed down all mentions to these most memorable female feuds.
The Biggest Feuds Between Millennials and Gen-X Pop Celebrities
Mariah Carey and Madonna
Throughout the 1990s, Mariah kept her distance from Madonna, although the origins of their frosty relationship were based on competition rather than outright public attacks. However, a feud with these two divas is no surprise as they have both been involved in other high-profile feuds as well. Rumor has it that Madonna had problems with Cher, Gwyneth Paltrow and Lady Gaga. Mariah is now in a relationship with Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez and of course Eminem.
Brandy vs. Monica
Despite their massive duet “The Boy is Mine,” these two had a real, intense rivalry that included a physical altercation. Tensions became so great that they recorded separately. Not surprisingly, much of their feud was fueled by media narratives, label competition and fan speculation, rather than a long-standing personal war.
Shannen Doherty vs. Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling
This ongoing feud became one of the most talked-about behind-the-scenes feuds in Hollywood of the ’90s. Like many cast conflicts, it was probably more complicated than a simple good versus evil story. At the time, Shannen gained a reputation for being outspoken, intense, and sometimes difficult to work with. She has claimed that some stories were exaggerated and that she was unfairly vilified.

Jennie Garth has openly admitted that she and Shannen have clashed. In interviews, Jennie said they were both strong personalities and competed for space in a high-pressure environment. She once admitted that they even almost got into a physical altercation.
Meanwhile, Tori reportedly complained to her father about the tension and Shannen’s behavior on set. Many people associate this with Shannen eventually leaving the show in 1994. Tori has since said that she feels guilty about how events unfolded and regrets parts of her involvement.
Shannen Doherty vs. Alyssa Milano
Most of what is publicly known comes from later interviews, memoirs, podcasts, and recollections of cast members, rather than a single definitive account. Some say Alyssa and Shannen just didn’t get along personally. Others said the network and producers had difficulty managing conflict. Shannen and co-star Holly Marie Combs later claimed that Alyssa influenced production decisions and contributed to Shannen’s exit. Alyssa says these claims are inaccurate and that she did not have the power that people claimed.
Britney Spears vs. Christina Aguilera
The “feud” between Britney Spears And Christina Aguilera was one of the biggest pop rivalries of the late 1990s and 2000s. A lot of it was definitely driven by media comparisons and fan culture rather than a personal war. However, in interviews in the early 2000s, both made subtle digs or snide comments about each other. Clearly they had parallel careers as both were active The Mickey Mouse Club, Both launched solo pop careers around the same time and both were blonde teen pop stars marketed to overlapping audiences. This was the height of tabloid celebrity culture, in which two successful women were often treated as if only one could win.
Pink vs. Christina Aguilera
In 2001, Pink and Christina joined forces Mya And Lil’ Kim for the hit Lady Jam from the Moulin Rouge! Soundtrack. According to Pink, tensions began during business discussions with the producer Linda Perry and management about who would sing which roles. Pink said she felt Christina’s team was pushing for more prominent singing moments, after which an argument reportedly broke out. As with the Britney/Christina conflict, this all occurred amid a divisive atmosphere in the pop industry at the time, where women were constantly pitted against each other.
Hilary Duff vs Lindsay Lohan
This was a real feud in the sense that there was tension throughout their teenage years, particularly around Aaron Carter and celebrity competition. But it was more of a short-lived, tabloid-enhanced rivalry in the early 2000s than a serious lifelong feud. Aaron dated Hilary, then Lindsay, then went back to Hilary. He later admitted that he had handled the situation poorly.
There were times when both women made comments that were interpreted as swipes. Hilary would at times criticize Lindsay’s behavior or question trust issues. Lindsay reportedly made sarcastic comments in return. Paparazzi culture amplified every little comment about “war.”
Demi Lovato vs. Selena Gomez
Demi and Selena were close childhood friends who grew apart, experienced real tensions, and whose friendship came under public scrutiny. It was more of a friendship breakdown than a celebrity feud. But because their friendship was so visible, any distance between them became headline news.
Paris Hilton vs Nicole Richie
No fully confirmed single cause for this duo’s split has ever been publicly stated. Both women remained vague for years, causing the rumor mill to explode. It seems to have been a mix of friendship stress, fame, jealousy and personal conflict. The most popular story that made headlines was that Nicole threw a party and showed one of Paris’ private tapes instead of the one she had planned Saturday Night Live Look. This rumor circulated widely at the time, but details were never verified. Paris said in 2005, “It’s no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends.” She did not publicly give detailed reasons, which only increased curiosity.
Katy Perry vs Taylor Swift
Katy and Taylor were initially friends in the late 2000s and early 2010s. They made public appearances together and exchanged supportive comments. The relationship reportedly deteriorated between 2013 and 2014 due to an issue with backup dancers who had worked with Katy and then joined Taylor’s The Red Tour. Several dancers later left Taylor’s tour to return to Katy’s camp.
In 2014, Taylor was released Bad bloodwidely interpreted as being about Katy. This turned a behind-the-scenes argument into a global pop culture storyline. Katy then posted a famous tweet warning people to “beware of the Regina George in sheep’s clothing,” which many took as a response.
Kim Cattrall vs Sarah Jessica Parker
Evidence suggests that tensions between SJP and Kim Cattrall began during the original series Sex and the city (1998–2004), although it was kept largely private at the time. Rumors circulated throughout the show regarding salary differences, status, and cast dynamics. Not only did SJP play the role of Carrie Bradshaw, she also became an executive producer, reportedly shifting power and compensation.
After the show ended, the tension became much more public. The rumors continued during and after the first two Sex and the city Films. A planned third film fell through and there were reportedly disputes surrounding Kim’s involvement. Headlines continued to make headlines over the years as Kim publicly said she and Sarah Jessica were never really friends, criticizing the narrative that they were close.
But if we really want to delve into the women’s feuds of the ’90s, perhaps we should mention Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. It was all wild. If you don’t know it, we recommend you watch the film Me, Tonya starring Margot Robbie.
