Just 45 minutes from Austin and San Antonio, the quirky town of Wimberley invites you to explore. The city’s motto is: “A beautiful place to visit…a great place to live.” It’s not hard to imagine the appeal of living in a town like Wimberley as it is very picturesque. In fact, Wimberley is so charming that a few films have actually been filmed there.
One of the latest films filmed in Wimberley is The lost husband with Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb and Nora Dunn. You can watch it on Netflix. Many scenes were filmed in Wimberley and surrounding towns. But that’s just one of many films filmed there! You can find the full list of films here Here.
And let’s not forget our favorite TV show filmed on location: Fear the walking dead! The hit AMC series featured heavily, among others, Pioneer Town, known as Humbug’s Gulch in the aptly named fifth season episode.
Wimberley is truly a hidden gem. It’s a quirky town full of southern charm surrounded by the beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
Here’s your guide to the best of Wimberley!
Food and Drink
But first coffee. There are a few cafes in town, but this would have to be our first choice Cypress Creek Coffee House. Not only is the location prime (next to the city’s shopping district, more on that later), but there’s also delicious coffee and baked goods to start your day right! Add to this the beautifully decorated and cozy atmosphere and you have the perfect place. If you’re craving a sweet treat with your morning cup of joe, give this a try White brew. They offer a classic espresso menu, but their baked goods are where they really shine. Sip on the spot is another favorite!
Comfort food is called comfort food for a reason. Sometimes self-care means giving yourself something that comforts your soul. Or sometimes order something from us Wimberley Cafe It just tastes good and that’s the only excuse you need.
Another great option is Longleaf Craft Kitchen+Bar. All ingredients are locally sourced and sourced from local farmers markets. There is also a beautiful, spacious sculpture garden available to guests.
Eat even more
If you didn’t know there was a wine region in Texas, you were missing out. Texas has really made a name for itself over the years by producing many great wines from local wineries. If you don’t have time, visit all kinds of places Los Olivos market And Hill Country Wine Shoppe and wine tasting room are a great alternative. Los Olivos Markets offers a selection of Texas wines as well as tastings. They also have delicious food, because what goes better than good wine than good food?
Ice cream is always a good idea. Monster Treats is a great place to grab some ice cream and play games. They have Jenga and Connect Four outdoors, among other things! Well, we may be biased, but their Zilker Mint Chip flavor might be our favorite. Another fun fact about Monster Treats is that they serve Austin favorite Amy’s Ice Cream!
Business
Shop until you drop! There are lots of great shopping opportunities in Wimberley. This small town has some really great shops. Wimberley calls its shopping area of the city “The Quarter,” a collection of interesting and unique boutiques. They even have a seating area outside for those husbands and partners who hate being dragged from store to store! Some of our favorite places in the district are Gold Dust Boutique, The cedar chestAnd Wildflower! You will definitely find interesting and unique things.
Calling all plant lovers! Ceremony Botanical Studio is here to make your green thumb dreams come true. We can guarantee that you won’t leave this store empty-handed. We know we never do that.
Experience
Part of the appeal of Wimberley is that you can enjoy nature in the middle of the town square. The entrance to the Cypress Creek Nature Trail and Preserve is right on site. Another great outdoor activity is Prayer Mountain. You may have to climb 220 steps up Prayer Mountain, but the beautiful views of the Texas Hill Country from the top are work with every step. As you make your way up the “mountain,” look out for the motivational sayings written on the rocks.
Wimberley has three large watering holes which are a major attraction in the summer months. Cypress Falls, Blue Hole Regional Park And Jacobs Well All great places to beat the heat and enjoy Mother Nature. Jacobs Well is very popular and to get on the water you need to reserve a spot in advance. Learn more Here.
Wimberley is really a great guy! You can find giant cowboy boots all over the city, all hand-painted by various local artists. The Bootiful Boots Project was launched in 2014 to support local artists and became a fixture in Wimberley. Find the boat trail map Here.
It’s just so appealing that art can be seen in public and not behind the walls of a museum. When you visit, keep an eye out for great murals.
Remain
Would you like to stay overnight in the area? Wimberley is home to some of our favorite glamping spots.
First comes the Yurtopian. Each yurt was carved from sand and carefully painted by an extended family in Mongolia. The yurt’s architecture and its sheep’s wool insulation provide a warm home in winter and a cool refuge in summer. King-size beds and minimalist furniture give the yurts a cozy yet stylized atmosphere. And that’s not all! Outside the yurt, each facility features a beautifully landscaped patio with a fire pit, a hot tub (which doubles as a wading pool in the summer), a kitchen, a bathroom, and an upper deck that offers guests breathtaking views of the Texas Hill Country. Find out more here.
Hidden in the cedars on a small hill in Wimberley, Spoon Mountain Glamping is a great place for a romantic getaway or even a girls trip. For the second option, we recommend reserving all three tents like we did! Each safari-style tent features hardwood floors, stylish details, comfortable beds, a full bathroom, a front deck with amazing sunset views and a back deck with a HUGE outdoor tub. There’s also a communal pavilion, a fire pit, outdoor games and a hot tub. Wellness offers are available on site upon request. As if that wasn’t enough, you’re just a stone’s throw from the Blue Hole and everything else Wimberley has to offer!
