I had the rest of the floral wallpaper installed in the entryway and I have to say it is my absolute favorite. I almost…almost…I wish I had found this mural back when I was working on my studio because it would have been perfect for the long wall in my studio. But I am very happy with this mural in the entryway of our house.
However, I hate that I had to cut off almost two meters of the mural to fit it on this wall. The whole thing is breathtaking. But I simply don’t have a 20 foot wall anywhere in our house, so this was the next best solution.
Now I need to figure out what to do with the sconce shades. Obviously the current green is too light. What I really want are brushed gold metallic tones, but I can’t find any that are the right size and shape. I may end up having to make some new ones. But for now, I’d rather look at bright greens than naked LED bulbs.
Maybe I need smaller, simpler wall lights overall. Instead of three light sconces, I may need single light sconces. I have to think about that. I’m open to both options – either new colors for these sconces or new sconces with a bulb.
Anyway, I’ll decide that later. I haven’t given up my search for new shades yet and I’m not quite ready to give up on a DIY version.
I’m also not entirely sure about the console table. I thought the one I have might cover up too much of the mural for my liking, but once it was back in place I really liked it (except for the one drawer that’s missing the trim and needs fixing ). The wall is over 12 feet wide so I think something heavy is needed on this wall. Maybe I’ll look for something new (either to buy or build), but for now I’m happy with how this one looks.
I actually don’t mind losing the portion of the mural that is covered by the console table.
However, I now want to repaint the front door. The teal door made sense if the entrance wall was the same color. But now that I no longer have the teal entry wall, the teal front door no longer makes sense. I think a white front door would look better so it doesn’t draw attention away from the mural.
Now that the mural is up and the console table and sconces are in place, I think I need something on the wall between the sconces. Unfortunately, what I put there will obscure the two reddish-pink flowers in the center. But I think without it it looks incomplete something on the wall between the sconces.
I think I would like a simple, round mirror with a wooden frame the best.
I have all kinds of mirrors on hand, but most of them are all tall rectangles, curved top mirrors, etc. The only one I had that fit this range was the sunburst mirror. I think it’s too crowded for that wall, but since it’s the only round mirror I have, I just put it there to get an idea of what a round mirror would look like there. This one is 37 inches in diameter, so you can see that a round mirror this size would obscure the two central reddish-pink flowers.
I’m disappointed about this, but I couldn’t do anything about it. I raised the mural as high as I could without cutting off the top yellow flowers on the left and the large pink flower on the right. At least I still have this other reddish-pink flower that can be seen between a round mirror and the wall light on the right.
Anyway, it’s still a work in progress, but at least the mural is finished and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how it looks. I need to hang the bird pictures on the wall in the living room and then add a few finishing touches. Once that’s done, I’ll show you the entire room with a new look.
