I have some more bedroom progress to share with you today and I’m really excited about it because I’m now really moving on to the final few projects in this room. Now it’s almost finished! And there’s just something about finally getting the sheets on a bed that really makes you feel like the project is coming to an end.
I have to give a big shout out to my mom for making all the pillows for me. While I worked on the headboard and bed frame, she sewed pillows, so it was a team effort. And now that it’s all put together, it looks like this…
It’s so fun to see a plan come together and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
And she added green piping to the bird fabric cushions. This is a green that I matched to the color of the dresser and then had Spoonflower print it.
For the comforter, I chose a simple quilt. I bought it in two colors – a lighter cream color and a darker sand color. I found these quilts on Amazon (affiliate link) and although this quilt is very similar to the one I use in our previous bedroom, this one is thicker so it feels and looks nicer, especially after it has been washed and dried.
It’s so fun to see my ideas go from models on my computer to the actual thing in our bedroom.
Anyway, here’s a closer look at the Light Sand quilt with the pillows.
And here you can take a closer look at the cream quilt with the pillows.
It took me a day to decide. I still want to make a blanket for the bed from the bird fabric. It will be trimmed with the green fabric, just like the pillows, and I initially thought I wanted a contrast between the cream background of the bird fabric and the color of the quilt. That’s why I really gravitated towards the color Light Sand at first. But in the end I decided on the cream color. I’m so used to using white linens and thought the light sand might look dingy on me. I am very happy with my final selection and very pleased with the quality of this quilt.
I purchased the 28″ square feather pillow inserts on Amazon and would give them three stars out of five. I have bought the smaller sizes many times and have always been very happy with them. But with these larger sizes I find they get a little stingy with the amount of springs they use. They’re nice, but not nearly full enough for my taste. So they are a bit floppy and I can’t stand floppy pillows.
I especially don’t like the idea that these particular pillows are floppy. Since the bird fabric is a main accent fabric in the room, I want these pillows to be filled as much as possible so the fabric really shines. I’ve been thinking about opening the seams and adding more feathers to each one since I always have extra feather pillow inserts on hand.
But then I decided to incorporate two pillow inserts into one pillowcase and that worked. That’s why I ordered two more pillow inserts for the other pillowcase, which will be here on Monday.
So until then I’ll have to live with floppy pillows. At least I still enjoy looking at the pretty fabrics. I also got the new feet for the bed frame yesterday, so I’ll be replacing those today.
And now that we can see the bed with the pillows, we can think again about whether or not the wall above the headboard needs a little decorative touch. I’m leaning towards yes, but I’m still not 100% sure.
And now that I’m moving on to another part of the room, I think my reading nook is finished. Well, I could maybe make a small change, but overall it’s already done. I’m happy to report that we no longer have to look at this eyesore on the wall. I’ve been looking at this open breaker box for a year now, but I finally got around to buying replacement screws so I can put the cover back on. (The original screws were lost during all construction work over the last year.)
But more importantly, I got the artwork back that I purchased to cover the breaker box. This print is 30″ x 30″ and I had it matted and framed so the finished dimensions are 36″ x 36″. I used my new favorite glass, museum glass, and then opted for a simple gold frame. I wanted the finished framed picture to be as light as possible so that I could easily remove it from the wall when I need access to the fuse box.
My mom also made the cushion for the chair, and this is another fabric I found at Spoonflower.
The only thing I could change is the small side table. It is made of metal and was originally cream in color. I didn’t want or like the cream color so I tried painting it to look like wood. But in the end it was a failure. It doesn’t look like wood at all. So I’ll probably end up painting it gold. It will be a quick and easy solution.
But overall, I’m so excited to see how this space turns out! I have a big project to finish – the curtains. And then I have a few small projects to tackle before the room is officially finished. I’m so close to the finish line!
