The BMW iX3 is about as new as a new generation model can be.
While it shares its name with the previous iX3, which was based on the previous-generation combustion-powered X3, the new iX3 debuts BMW’s Neue Klasse electric vehicle platform and incorporates the German brand’s sixth-generation eDrive technology.
It will be launched here in mid-2026 in 50 xDrive form, with a 345kW/645Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive and a large 108kWh battery.

This gives the iX3 a range of 805 km on the WLTP cycle, the longest range of any new vehicle currently sold in Australia. Its 800 V electrical system also supports DC fast charging with up to 400 kW, significantly more than the 150 kW value of the predecessor iX3, which also “only” achieved a WLTP range of 460 km.
Inside, it features a bold new look for BMW: a 43.3-inch BMW Panoramic Vision display extends across the bottom of the windshield and complements a head-up display and a 17.9-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Despite these significant improvements, it is only $5,000 more expensive than the previous iX3 in flagship single-motor rear-wheel drive trim. It also outperforms mid-size luxury electric SUV rivals such as the Audi Q6 e-tron quattro, Porsche Macan 4, Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor and Genesis Electrified GV70, all of which cost between $120,000 and $140,000 (excluding on-road costs).
A cheaper, single-engine, rear-wheel-drive iX3 40 variant is expected to go on sale here in 2027, likely followed by a sportier iX3 M60. BMW is also reportedly working on a quad-motor performance flagship iX3 M.
