The SEALION WORLD 8 isn’t Australia’s cheapest plug-in hybrid SUV (PHEV), but it’s one of them.
BYD has announced a base price of $56,990 before on-road costs for the large crossover SUV, which equates to a drive-away price of $60,773 in New South Wales.
That puts it below the Chery Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid ($59,990 before on-road, $65,430 in New South Wales) but above the (admittedly much smaller) Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid ($45,990 to $49,990 before on-road).

Orders can now be placed and deliveries will begin before the end of March.
The Sealion 8 is BYD’s largest SUV in Australia to date and the first with three rows of seating.

Drives and efficiency
All BYD Sealion 8 have a double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension.
The base Premium FWD features variable frequency damping suspension, with the all-wheel drive versions upgrading to BYD’s DiSus-C intelligent damping suspension.
All Sealion 8 have a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function that allows you to power small electrical devices.

Maintenance and warranty
The BYD Sealion 8 comes with a six-year, 150,000 km vehicle warranty and an eight-year, 160,000 km battery warranty.
Service pricing has yet to be announced.

The BYD Sealion 8 still needs to be tested by the independent safety authority ANCAP.
