Anthropic just entered the healthcare AI space with the launch of Claude for Healthcare, a new suite of tools for providers, payers and patients. Following in the footsteps of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Health, Claude for Healthcare aims to safely bring AI into medical contexts and help users access and understand their health information more effectively.
As part of this initiative, Anthropic is rolling out new integrations that allow users to connect their health data to Claude. In the US, subscribers to Claude Pro and Max plans can grant the AI assistant secure access to lab results and health records and unlock features that make this data actionable.
Once connected, Claude can help users summarize their medical history, explain test results in simple language, and even prepare questions for doctor’s visits. It can also analyze health and fitness data from wearables like the Apple Watch and detect patterns in various metrics to give users a clearer picture of their overall health.
Anthropic has already released new HealthEX and Function connectors in beta that allow users to give Claude access to their medical data. The Apple Health and Android Health Connect integrations, which allow Claude to pull health and fitness metrics from phones and wearables, are rolling out in beta this week through the Claude app for iOS and Android.
Anthropic promises complete privacy and user control
The company has emphasized that privacy and user control are central to these integrations. It notes that users must explicitly opt-in to try out these features, can control exactly what information they share, and can disable or edit Claude’s permissions at any time. Anthropic also says that users’ health data will not be used to train its AI models.
To ensure users use the findings responsibly, Claude will add contextual disclaimers, acknowledge areas of uncertainty, and refer users to healthcare professionals for personalized advice.
