Microsoft is quietly discontinuing one of Edge’s best features, and if you’ve ever relied on it to stay organized online, then this hurts. Collections, the built-in tool that lets you save, group, and revisit web pages in a clean, visual way, is officially being retired.
Edge will now display a warning asking users to move or export their collections before removing the feature. This is usually the clearest sign that the end is near. Introduced in 2020 with the Chromium-based Edge, Collections allows you to store web pages, images, and notes in grouped cards that sync across devices.
You can use it for research, shopping lists, travel planning, or just keeping track of things you want to read later. It was visual, flexible, and surprisingly powerful, which is why many users connected with it.
What is changing and what you should do now
According to Windows Latest’s warning on Edge’s development channel, Collections will be removed in a future update, although Microsoft hasn’t announced an exact date. In this case, users have two options to save their data.
One is to move collections to Favorites, which creates a folder called CollectionsExport. This will preserve your links, but leave images and notes behind. The other option is to export everything as a CSV file and save it to your Documents folder. While this serves as a backup, it’s not very useful for everyday browsing.
It’s also unclear whether Collections will disappear from Edge on mobile devices. Microsoft hasn’t explained why it’s discontinuing Collections, but this move follows a pattern.
The company is discontinuing apps like Microsoft Lens for mobile devices and ending support for the lightweight Windows 11 SE Education Edition, while quietly introducing fixes to improve quality of life in apps like Word by making hyperlinks faster and smoother.
If you use Collections, now is the time to open Edge and export your data. Once it’s gone, there’s no built-in replacement, and that’s a real loss for anyone who wanted to do something more with their browser than just load pages.
