A total of 19 vehicles were seized by police and 85 defect notices were issued during Canberra’s annual Summernats festival.
According to ACT Policing, in the week of the incident, 22 drivers were found to be impaired and almost 20 vehicles were impounded in a high-visibility operation in the nation’s capital.
With temperatures reaching 35 degrees, the 38th edition of Summernats attracted around 130,000 visitors from across the country, with 3,000 vehicles reportedly registered for the car show ABC News.
A yellow Holden VN Commodore with expired number plates and an expired Victoria Club permit was seized ahead of the event after police found the vehicle engaging in “sustained and dangerous burnout activities” on the Barton Highway in videos posted on social media.

Another Holden Commodore was impounded on Saturday evening, with police observing the 38-year-old driver from Queensland performing a burnout “just meters from pedestrians”.
“Unfortunately, police responded to several incidents of dangerous driving over the weekend,” Detective Inspector Steel said in a statement after the festival.
“Such behavior is unacceptable on our roads. If a driver loses control of their vehicle, they could seriously injure themselves and others.”
Six people were also arrested at the event and there were reportedly fights between guests.
Australian Federal Police conducted more than 2200 roadside alcohol and drug tests, resulting in eight arrests, while 197 unsafe driving citations were issued across the territory.
Summernats recently announced a second overseas event: The festival will take place in March at the Freedom Factory in Florida, part-owned by YouTuber Cleetus McFarland.
