The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 60W charging might not be as impressive as you’d expect

Fast charging technology has seen significant improvements in recent years, with brands like OnePlus and Xiaomi pushing the 100W mark on their flagship phones. However, Samsung has taken a far more conservative approach and has stuck with 45W wired charging on its top-of-the-line Galaxy S series models for several years, even as the competition continues to raise the bar.

Recent leaks suggest that Samsung could finally deliver a much-needed charging upgrade with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, increasing the wired charging speed to 60W. The company is also rumored to be introducing a new PPS charging solution that could, in practice, offer noticeably faster charging performance than the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 45W system. Now a new leak sheds more light on what improvements this new setup could bring.

In a recent post on X, tipster Ice Universe claimed that Samsung’s new 60W charging solution can charge the Galaxy S26 Ultra from 0 to 75% in 30 minutes. The numbers are reportedly based on internal testing under controlled conditions, meaning real-world loading speeds may vary.

Given that in our review of the Galaxy S25 Ultra we found that the device charged from 0 to 75% in around 30 minutes using a compatible 45W charger, these numbers don’t suggest a dramatic improvement in real-world use. However, Samsung’s new 60W solution could be faster in the early stages of the charging cycle, based on information from a previous leak.

For fast charging, Samsung’s 60W charging solution may be better suited

If that’s true, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 60W charging solution could be significantly better for fast charging, while offering only modest benefits when it comes to fully charging the battery. We don’t have to wait too long for confirmation as Samsung is expected to unveil the device later this month.

It’s also worth noting that Samsung may reserve the 60W charging solution for the Ultra variant, as leaks suggest the Galaxy S26 and S26+ could stick with 25W and 45W fast charging respectively.
