SwitchBot’s new robot could do the housework for you

CES always brings with it a flood of futuristic technology, and this year robot butlers are stealing the spotlight. LG has already introduced its CLOiD robot, and SwitchBot is joining in with its first humanoid robot designed to do household chores.

According to SwitchBot, the onero H1 is a fully automatic and collaborative robot that can help users with a variety of household tasks. The robot has two fully articulated arms with 22 degrees of freedom, giving it near-human dexterity.

The onero H1 scans its surroundings with multiple Intel RealSense cameras in the head, arms, hands and stomach and processes the data using SwitchBot’s OmniSense VLA AI algorithm. According to SwitchBot’s marketing video, it allows the robot to perform tasks such as making and serving coffee, cooking meals, washing and putting dishes in the dishwasher, and even doing laundry.

SwitchBot adds that the robot also integrates seamlessly into its broader smart home ecosystem and interacts with other smart devices to coordinate tasks. Unlike other humanoid robots we’ve seen recently, the Onero H1 moves on wheels, which should provide more stability and faster navigation around the house.

Pre-orders are opening soon, but the price is still a mystery

There is no information on pricing yet, but SwitchBot plans to launch pre-orders on its official website soon. How well it works in real use remains to be seen. We’re keeping our expectations in check, especially given the amount of overrated demos and hilarious failures we’ve seen lately.

Humanoid robots like the Onero H1 suggest a future where daily tasks could be automated, leaving people more time for work, hobbies or just relaxing. While we’re still a long way from having fully functioning robot butlers in every home, this year’s CES presentation shows that companies are serious about making this sci-fi dream a reality.
