The privacy display of the Galaxy S26 Ultra could protect your screen from prying eyes

Samsung is reportedly planning to offer a new privacy feature on the Galaxy S26 Ultra that will help users hide screen contents from prying eyes. Hints of this feature were first spotted in a leaked internal build of One UI 8.5 last year. While Samsung hasn’t announced anything official yet, a new report has shed light on how the Privacy Display feature might work.

Back in September, code discovered in the leaked One UI 8.5 build showed that the feature would limit the visibility of the screen from side angles. It was also noted that the feature will be activated automatically when using sensitive apps in crowded places. Now SammyGuru has discovered a new page in Samsung’s updated Tips app that reveals a few more details.

According to the app, users can enable the privacy display feature either from the display panel of the Settings app or through a quick settings toggle. Additionally, users can configure automatic activation when using certain apps or via a notification popup.

The app also includes an animation showing the feature in action. It shows that the screen appears normal when viewed directly, but appears dark when viewed at an angle. While users can achieve similar results by applying a privacy screen protector to any device, Samsung’s software-based approach should offer some key advantages.

Better than privacy films

By building the feature directly into the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung saves users the cost of a separate screen protector. It also offers flexibility as users can disable it when not needed while avoiding the constantly dimming display that comes with using a privacy screen protector.

The Privacy Display feature is expected to arrive with the Galaxy S26 Ultra later this month. However, it is still unclear whether it will be limited to the flagship model.
