The upcoming battery monster phone from OnePlus shows its face and looks terribly familiar

A new OnePlus smartphone called the OnePlus Turbo has surfaced in a series of new leaks. The folks at Android Headlines got their hands on live images of the handset, giving us our first proper look at the smartphone. Visually the phone looks familiar to me.

As seen in the images, the phone features a glossy back with a dual camera setup on the top left (placed on a raised platform). The sides look like they’re made of textured plastic, while the front panel houses a hole-punched screen with minimal (and symmetrical) bezels on all sides.

Well-known design language, huge battery

While the right frame of the OnePlus Turbo houses the power and volume buttons, the top frame houses microphones and the IR blaster. At the bottom is the primary speaker grille, USB-C port, and SIM tray.

If the design looks familiar and looks familiar, that’s because the handset follows a template we’ve seen on recent OnePlus smartphones like the OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus 15R. From the looks of it, the company is following a similar strategy to Samsung, pursuing a consistent design language across all models, from flagships to mid-range models.

In addition to the familiar design, the OnePlus Turbo is said to offer a 6.8″ 1.5K OLED screen that offers a refresh rate of 144 Hz. Under the hood, the smartphone could run on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, paired with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage.

As for the optics, the rumored handset could feature a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide sensor and a 32MP selfie shooter. Another big highlight of the phone is the 9,000mAh battery, which dwarfs the combined battery capacity of Samsung and Apple’s most popular flagships.

Realistically, the OnePlus Turbo’s battery should easily last over a day of moderate use, taking the “two-day” battery life from a point of debate among enthusiasts to a reality.

However, the battery may only support 80W wired charging, so a full charge will take about an hour and a half. Out of the box, the handset could run on OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16.

Additionally, the handset seems to be the perfect choice for buyers who value battery life and are willing to compromise on the flagship’s performance and cameras. If I were to speculate, the OnePlus Turbo could launch outside of China under a different name, perhaps in the “CE” range.
