New Delhi: India is fielding a strong 26-man contingent in the $4 million DP World India Championship to be played from October 16-19, 2025 at the prestigious Delhi Golf Club (DGC).
The tournament boasts one of the strongest fields on Indian soil with the likes of global golf superstars Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Shane Lowry and Luke Donald teeing off on the hallowed turf of the DGC.
While international winners Shubhankar Sharma, Anirban Lahiri, Shiv Kapur, Rahil Gangjee and Ajeetesh Sandhu are the biggest Indian names in the field, the mega event also features a number of young Indian players who have made their mark on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) in recent years and will now look to make an impression at the DGC next Thursday leave behind.
The tall and lanky Veer Ahlawat is the most famous of these names. Veer, 29, secured a spot on the DP World Tour in 2025 by topping the PGTI Order of Merit last year. The four-time PGTI winner had also finished second at the Indian Open 2024, achieving his best international result.
Ahlawat said: “I haven’t had the best season but I think this week gives me a great opportunity to make an impact. I want this event to count as I know a top 10 finish here would help me save my card on the DP World Tour. I would say I’ve done well in the last few events in Europe before this week so my form has been good.”
“Indian golfers will have a distinct advantage this week as we all know the DGC course well and have played here since our youth. The layout at DGC has always favored Indians.”
Yuvraj Sandhu, an Asian Development Tour winner, is another Indian golfer to watch out for. The 13-time PGTI winner currently leads the PGTI Order of Merit with four titles this season. The 28-year-old has won back-to-back titles at the PGTI this year, proving his dominance in India.
Yuvraj said, “I have just been in great form in India this year. I would like to carry that momentum into this week. I am really excited to be here in this world-class field. Since the announcement of this tournament, this week has been the most anticipated for all of us Indian golfers. DGC feels like a second home course for me, so I feel very comfortable playing here.”
Arjun Prasad, fresh from his first win two weeks ago, sits second on the PGTI money list thanks to his 11 top-10 finishes this season. Prasad will also be in the spotlight this week. The 26-year-old Arjun, who has been the most consistent PGTI player this year, received a shot in the arm when he finally joined the winner’s circle to book his place at the DP World India Championship earlier this month.
Arjun said: “Participating in the DP World India Championship is a huge confidence boost for me as it was one of my goals as soon as the tournament was announced. Competing in a field consisting of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood is a dream come true. I’m really looking forward to playing alongside Tommy again, who is my playing partner at the Indian Championships Open 2016 was when I competed as an amateur.”
Apart from the players mentioned above, there are a host of Indian names who have the talent and potential to make their mark at the DGC this week. This includes players such as former PGTI Order of Merit champions Om Prakash Chouhan and Manu Gandas, both of whom have the experience of playing one season each on the DP World Tour.
Then there is Olympic gold medalist and former PGTI Order of Merit winner Udayan Mane, who has also been in top form this year. Udayan, a 12-time PGTI winner, has posted seven top-10 finishes this season, placing him fifth on the PGTI merit list. 22-year-old Shaurya Bhattacharya is a two-time winner and currently sits fourth in the PGTI rankings with one win and eight other top-10 finishes this season.
Angad Cheema, winner of five titles, is one of only three multiple winners of the PGTI this season. Angad has been a model of consistency of late, finishing in the top five of the PGTI rankings for the last two seasons.
