WhatsApp is working on a new feature for channels that could give administrators another way to interact with followers. The tool, seen in the latest iOS beta, allows administrators to create multiple-choice quizzes and add a more interactive option alongside existing features like polls.
The Quiz feature, first seen in an Android beta last week, works much like polls, with one key difference. Unlike polls, a quiz requires admins to provide the correct answer before sharing it on the channel. When members select an option, WhatsApp immediately shows whether their answer is correct and plays a short confetti animation if the answer is correct.
According to WABetaInfo, channel admins can create a new quiz by opening the attachment menu and selecting the “New Quiz” option. On the following page, they can enter a question and add several possible answers, which can be plain text, images, or a combination of both. Administrators must also mark an answer as correct before publishing.
Administrators receive detailed results of the quiz, including the number of options selected and members participating. All details are visible to members in the admin’s contacts. However, members who are not in the admin’s contacts will only see limited information, depending on the member’s privacy settings.
The quizzes are available to a small group of beta users
WhatsApp’s new Quiz feature is currently available to some users in the latest beta versions for iOS and Android. As with other features tested in WhatsApp’s beta program, it may take some time before quizzes are more widely available.
WhatsApp has not yet announced a schedule for a public release and has not confirmed whether the feature will launch with the same functionality as in the beta builds. The company is expected to share more details once the feature is ready for a wider rollout.
