Gomi has an unusual suggestion for anyone who is tired of replacing their phone case every time they update their iPhone. Instead of throwing away the old device, the company wants you to send it back. Gomi melts down the case and turns it into a new case that fits your next phone. It uses the same recycled plastic instead of starting from scratch with new materials.
Built to be reused, not replaced
The product is called Forever Phone Case and is based on the idea that a phone case should last longer than the phone itself. Each case is handmade in Brighton, UK and is made from 100% recycled plastic, meaning no two cases will look exactly the same.
When you’re ready for a new device or simply want a refresh, Gomi remoldes the material into another case or even another Gomi product and keeps the plastic in use instead of sending it to the landfill.
The Forever Phone Case is available to pre-order now for £55 (approximately $74) ahead of its release in January 2026. If you later upgrade your phone, Gomi charges £20 (about $27) to adapt the case to the new model.
Gomi also offers buyers flexibility in terms of features. You can also choose to add MagSafe compatibility at an additional cost. The MagSafe option inserts a ring of magnets into the case to ensure chargers, wallets, and docks snap into place in the correct orientation. If you don’t use MagSafe accessories, you can do without them.
Although the focus is on sustainability, Gomi says conservation has not been compromised. The case supports wireless charging and has been military-grade drop tested to withstand accidental drops. It also features raised edges to protect both the screen and camera.
There is no real life end to the case. Gomi will always take it back and reuse the material even if you don’t want another phone case. The company also offers a 30-day return policy if it doesn’t meet your expectations.
The Forever Phone Case lands in a crowded market full of protective iPhone cases, iPhone 16 case options and iPhone 17 case designs, as well as a quirky case for the iPhone 17 Pro with selfie support. What sets Gomi apart is not just the protection or design, but the idea that a case doesn’t have to be disposable every time Apple releases a new iPhone.
