Phone cases are usually just about protecting your device from bumps and scratches. But the new Selfix housing from Dockcase does much more. It adds a functional display to the back of the iPhone 17 Pro, allowing you to make the most of the triple camera setup for selfies.
The Selfix body has a 1.6-inch round AMOLED screen with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels that can be used as a live viewfinder for selfies and videos. It mirrors the view of the iPhone’s main camera, allowing you to frame shots precisely and capture higher quality images without relying on the front camera. But that’s not all.
Dockcase has also built in some useful extras, including a PD 3.0 USB-C port that supports up to 100W input power, a dedicated power button for the display, and a microSD card slot that can expand storage by up to 2TB. The company says the rear display offers a lag-free experience and doesn’t require a separate app to work, so you can start clicking high-resolution selfies as soon as you put it on.
Coming soon to Kickstarter
If this sounds like something you’d want for your iPhone, you need to hold back. Dockcase has not yet announced pricing and availability details. The case maker has only announced that it will soon be funded via Kickstarter, which is anything but reassuring.
When it releases, the case will be available in Blush Pink, Oat White and Midnight Black colors for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. It remains to be seen how well the round screen works and whether the case reaches supporters.
For those who don’t own the latest iPhone 17 Pro models and want something similar, the Xiaomi 17 Pro may be the next best thing. The device has an integrated secondary display on the back, which can not only help you take selfies. However, it costs significantly more than a case with a screen.
