The 2026 Jaecoo J5 small SUV will bring three powertrain options to Australia

The 2026 Jaecoo J5 has been confirmed for release in Australia with a choice of three powertrains – petrol, hybrid and electric – but the all-new small SUV will arrive here later than expected February next year.

Set to launch locally later this year, the J5 will join the Chinese car brand’s growing Australian model range below the existing Jaecoo J7 mid-size SUV in both size and price.

However, pricing and specifications are yet to be announced Omoda Jaecoo Australia Initial local details have been confirmed today, including three powertrain options, starting with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 108kW of power and 210Nm of torque, mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

Also available will be a 1.5-litre petrol-electric inline-parallel hybrid system and a battery-electric version with a WLTP range of 402km.

Like the larger, related J7, Jaecoo says the J5 will place an emphasis on “premium design, technology and safety” and bring “the same design language and outdoor-oriented approach to a new corner of the SUV segment.”

With the same upright silhouette, broad shoulders and signature waterfall grille as the J7, the five-seat J5 is 4380mm long, 1860mm wide and 1650mm high, with a 2620mm wheelbase. This makes it slightly shorter overall than the Chinese brand’s Omoda 5. But up to 50mm longer than the best-selling Hyundai Kona.

It also offers a load volume of 480 liters behind the 60/40 split rear seats, which frees up up to 1,284 liters of luggage space when folded flat.

Standard equipment confirmed by Omoda Jaecoo today includes a 13.2-inch portrait-mode infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a six-speaker audio system and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
