From helping you write email to managing smart home devices, Google’s Gemini continues to integrate into more and more aspects of your life. Soon it could change the way you read books on your phone.
Android Authority discovered an upcoming Gemini integration while browsing the latest beta version of the Google Play Books & Audiobooks app (version 2025.11.29.2). Although the integration isn’t live yet, the release managed to enable it manually, giving us an early look at how it might work upon release.
As shown in the attached screenshots, the app could introduce a new “Ask Gemini” button in the menu that will appear whenever the user selects text. Although not yet functional, this button will likely allow users to ask Gemini questions about selected text, create summaries, or explain complex topics.
Gemini in Google Play Books could be a game-changer
This feature could be of great use to readers as they can get contextual information, explanations of complex passages, summaries of long paragraphs, or even definitions of unfamiliar terms. By adding a Gemini button directly in the app, Google also eliminates the need for users to copy and paste text into the Gemini app or a browser window, making the process much smoother.
However, it’s not immediately clear whether this button redirects users to the Gemini app or opens the assistant in an overlay so users can get answers without leaving the app. There is also no information on whether a similar integration will be available for audiobooks.
Google has not yet released any official information about this Gemini integration. Since it was discovered in an APK teardown, it probably won’t reach users as quickly or at all. By the time the integration goes live, Google may make further changes, so it may not resemble the images above.
