Google is accelerating the launch of Gemini for Home to give more users access to the AI-powered upgrade of their smart speakers and displays. Gemini for Home, which replaces Assistant on Google Home devices, first became available for early access in October. It has since reached millions of users in the US, but many Google Home users still haven’t gained access. If you are one of them, there is good news.
Google has announced a faster invitation process to help more users try Gemini for Home. In a Nest Community post, the company said those who haven’t yet received an invite can sign up for early access and receive an invite within 24 hours.
Gemini for Home is also offered by third parties
Along with the accelerated rollout, Google has confirmed that it is expanding Gemini for Home support to third-party devices. This means the new voice assistant is no longer limited to Google’s own smart speakers and displays, allowing users with other brands of Assistant-controlled devices to experience the improved voice assistant.
For users who aren’t sure whether they’ve already been invited, Google recommends checking the Home settings in the Google Home app. If there is still no invite, users can log in and expect to receive an invite within the next 24 hours. Google notes that while most users should receive their invites quickly, a few may experience delays if their devices or accounts are not compatible with Gemini for Home.
The full Gemini for Home experience is supported on the second generation Google Nest Hub, Nest Audio, second generation Nest Mini, and Nest Hub Max. Older devices such as the Nest Wifi point, first generation Nest Hub, Google Home, Google Home Max, first generation Google Home Mini, and third-party speakers are supported but do not receive access to Gemini Live.
