The new homage La Placide brings back the early charm of Roger Dubuis.
There are watches that make a splash as soon as they arrive, and then there are watches like the brand new Homage La Placide that feel like they’ve been waiting for their big moment. The original Homage line was Roger Dubuis’ personal letter of thanks to the watchmakers who shaped his early years, when the brand was still establishing itself in the world of independent watches. This new 28-part release doesn’t come with hype; It’s more like flipping through an old sketchbook full of personality and history that you forgot existed. It’s a subtle reminder of who Dubuis was and the practical, slightly bold approach that characterized his work.
Instead of building something completely new, Roger Dubuis went back to his own history by taking original RD14 movements from the early 2000s and giving them a total refresh. Each example was examined, rebuilt and combined with the RD72 perpetual calendar to create the hybrid RD1472. The result feels like a carefully restored mix of original and remanufactured parts, treated with the same care and attention that Dubuis himself would have given. The biretrograde display, long one of his favorite complications, is a small nod to the founder’s love of sophistication in motion.
The dial reflects the same philosophy. Mother-of-pearl arches, a deep Leman Blue main plate, and an aventurine moon phase all come together in a way that feels hand-crafted. The name “La Placide,” derived from Dubuis’ boy scout nickname from his childhood, adds a touch of personality to the 38mm rose gold watch and gives it a human feel. Even offering the original tribute owners a free bracelet is just a gesture and not a campaign. At a time of great anniversaries and bold statements, Homage La Placide quietly celebrates decades of craftsmanship and character without the need to shout out loud.
