There are many electric waste vehicle (EV) charging stations in Australia, from those with sockets that are constantly switched off to others located in dingy parking lots next to dumpsters.
However, the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) says it has found the best public charger in the country, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.
Not surprisingly, it’s a Tesla Supercharger station and it’s located in New Italy.
This location is now open to all electric vehicles, not just Teslas, and won the AEVA Best Charging Station 2025 award for a variety of reasons.
It has a large solar system that not only provides electricity, but also shades the 12 charging slots, which provide up to 300 kW of power.

There is more shade between the trees nearby, but the AEVA advises that there is plenty of bright light if you stop charging late at night.
The station is also close to a café, public restrooms and a gift shop, and offers drive-through parking for electric trailers and tap-and-go credit card payment options.
Second place was not taken by another Tesla Supercharger, but by a location on the Perth-Esperance Electric Vehicle Highway in Lake Grace, Western Australia. According to PlugShare, both connectors – a CHAdeMO and a CCS2 – were under repair at the time of writing.
AEVA is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization representing electric vehicle owners.
It is only the second time this award has been presented. The first winner was an RAA station in Snowtown, South Australia, which was celebrated for its proximity to amenities, a dedicated disabled area and a choice of AC or DC fast chargers.
