2026 BYD Atto 1 price and specs: Australia’s cheapest electric vehicle outperforms many ICE rivals

Meet Australia’s most affordable electric vehicle (EV): the World Atto 1Priced from $23,990 before on-road costs.

The small electric hatchback is priced $6,000 less than BYD’s small Dolphin model, making it the cheapest electric vehicle on the market.

It also outperforms a number of popular petrol or hybrid city cars, including the Mazda 2 and Toyota Yaris.

The Atto 1, known as the Seagull or Dolphin Surf in other markets, is BYD’s new entry-level model and will be available in Australian showrooms in December in two variants.

The Essential comes with a smaller 30kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a less powerful 65kW/175Nm electric motor, while the Premium upgrades to a larger 43.2kWh battery and a 115kW/220Nm electric motor.

The electric range according to WLTP is 220 km or 310 km.
