EEAT is not a Google update – but ignoring it will kill your rankings. The most misunderstood concept in search engine optimization right now

There is a persistent misunderstanding about EEAT in blogging communities that needs to be corrected, as acting based on a false understanding leads to completely wrong decisions. EEAT was never an update. It is not a ranking signal. It’s something that’s included in search rating guidelines, and some SEOs have started associating things like author bios with better rankings.

EEAT is not a button that turns Google on or off with a specific update. This philosophy runs through the way Google evaluates content quality – and this philosophy will be applied more consistently with each core update in 2026. What EEAT actually measures

The three EEAT fixes that take less than a day

First, create a separate author bio page for each author on your website. Include their professional background, any relevant credentials or experience, links to other publications they have written for, and their social profiles. This is a work afternoon with increased SEO value.

Second, add author schema markup to each article. Content that answers the main question early and contains context rather than just definitions – these are trust signals. Create or strengthen author bio pages with linked references as part of your EEAT foundation.

Third, review your most important articles for first-hand experience signals. When you make a claim or recommendation, ask if there is any evidence of personal experience behind it. Phrases like “in my testing” and “when I used this tool” aren’t just stylistic choices – they’re EEAT signals that differentiate your content from AI-generated summaries that don’t include real experience.
