The second major Google update of 2026 has just been released
Google officially released the May 2026 Core Update on May 21, marking the second major core algorithm update of the year. After the March 2026 Core Update, the March Spam Update, and the February Discover Update, the rollout is expected to take up to two weeks to fully complete.
Don’t panic – here’s the handy checklist
Google’s advice is clear: monitor organic traffic and keyword visibility trends, avoid drastic SEO changes due to day-to-day fluctuations, check that your content truly meets users’ intent, and focus on originality, expertise and usability rather than algorithm hunting. The only thing worth doing for bloggers now is checking your worst-performing posts – thin content and pages that don’t fully answer the search query were the most affected in this update.
