The Denza Z convertible was unveiled at today’s opening of the Beijing Motor Show as a sleek 1000 hp (746 kW) drop-top version of the 2025 Z Coupe concept, capable of 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 2.0 seconds (reportedly).
Denza is the luxury arm of BYD and launched in Australia in 2025, led by the large plug-in hybrid SUVs B5 and B8. The recently announced Z9 GT electric sports car marks the first step into the premium performance car segment.
With the Z Convertible set to make its dynamic public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, it hasn’t yet been confirmed for Australia, where it could rival the slightly larger Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, provide an electric alternative to the similarly sized Porsche 911 Cabriolet and look just right on Melbourne’s Chapel Street or Sydney’s Bondi Junction.

The open-top 911 is currently offered in hybrid form as the GTS Cabriolet, priced at $428,400 before on-road costs, while the first topless 911 GT3 was also recently unveiled.
Pricing and specific model levels for the Denza Z Convertible have yet to be announced.
The Z convertible takes the sleek lines of the Z coupe – designed by former Audi designer Wolfgang Egger, now BYD’s global design director – and adds a folding soft-top roof while retaining the four-seat layout (2+2).
The large rear wing seen on test models of the coupe has been removed along with some other body add-ons, and a subtle integrated rear spoiler is now part of the design. The elongated, diamond-shaped taillights and diffuser-style rear design were adopted.
Shown in a “Fiorentine” paint finish rather than the coupe’s matte colors, the Z convertible features a bold green, white and yellow interior. It retains the same reinforced side skirts as the coupe and features few other exterior changes.
Under the hood, the Z will be powered by an electric powertrain that the automaker says will produce “more than 1,000 horsepower” (746 kW) and feature all-wheel drive, although further details have yet to be revealed.
Denza has confirmed the steer-by-wire steering and magnetorheological suspension seen on Ferrari, Chevrolet Corvette and previously Holden Special Vehicles models in Australia, as well as “predictive road sensing” that suggests adaptive dampers with camera-based surface detection.
Denza is expected to launch the 850kW Z9 GT EV in Australia in 2026 as its first performance-focused model with a claimed range of up to 820km (WLTP). The BYD Blade 2 battery will also be introduced with a new “flash charging” function.
Although the fastest electric vehicle chargers in Australia typically have an output of around 350kW, BYD’s new battery is said to support charging speeds of up to 1500kW, enabling an 80 percent charge in just nine minutes.
BYD and Denza will begin rolling out their own fast charging stations in Australia from the last quarter of 2026 to support this capability.
