Pictures of the Volkswagen ID. polo Electric hatches, including the flagship GTI, have been released online, showing the vehicle in full ahead of its official unveiling in Europe later this year.
Although it was spotted during testing, this is the first sighting of the exterior of the showroom version of the ID. Polo, which the carmaker says has yet to be confirmed for Australian showrooms revealed the interior Earlier this year.
Pictures posted on Instagram by Wilco Blokwhich was later removed but widely shared online, shows three model variants of the electric sunroof being sold alongside an updated Polo with a combustion engine.
While the car’s technical development was led by the Volkswagen Group’s Spanish brands – Seat (not sold here) and Cupra – it was designed by the Volkswagen brand in Wolfsburg, Germany.

The images show that the final version incorporates design elements from the ID.2 All concept shown in 2023 and the ID. GTI concept presented in 2023.
The yellow vehicle appears to be the base model and features a simple exterior design, including a contrasting horizontal bar across the nose as well as black mirror caps and window surrounds.
It rides on smaller alloy wheels than the upscale Gunmetal Gray ID. The Polo has also been leaked, which stops short of the eye-catching red ID. Polo GTI.
The sporty flagship features a horizontal bar with GTI logo under the lights and grille, as well as a unique front bumper with honeycomb inserts.
The flagship GTI also appears to be the only one of the three to feature an illuminated light bar at the front.
The ID card. The Polo – which reflects Volkswagen’s plan to use its iconic nameplates instead of new names for its electric vehicles in the future – will use the MEB+ platform and feature a range of front-wheel drive single-motor powertrains.
Volkswagen has confirmed that European models will feature a 37kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a choice of 85kW or 99kW motors.
A more powerful 155kW motor is offered with a 52kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery with a claimed range of 450km (WLTP) and 130kW DC fast charging.
The ID card. The Polo GTI will combine the same battery with a 166 kW motor.
The new platform will also enable next-generation active safety and driver assistance technology. The announced price in Europe is 25,000 euros (~A$41,500), around 5,000 euros (~A$8,300) more than the cheapest petrol Polo.
Prices for the current petrol Polo in Australia start at $30,990 before on-road costs for the Polo 85TSI Life, while the range-topping Polo GTI is priced at $41,990 before on-road costs. This pricing could change when the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the European Union and Australia comes into effect.
