Despite the rising cost of hardware components, Samsung’s next ultra-premium smartphone may not see a price increase. A new report suggests that Samsung may decide not to increase the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the reason could lie with Apple.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone could be the reason Samsung is considering keeping the price of its upcoming foldable devices closer to the current generation to remain competitive.
Why Samsung is taking this step
Apple is widely expected to release its first foldable iPhone as early as this year. Apple is reportedly increasing its original production plans. As confidence in the new product increases, the number could rise from around 8 million units to up to 15 million units.
Early rumors suggested the foldable iPhone could cost around $2,400, but more recent estimates suggest a cheaper price of $2,000. In this price range, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series becomes a competitor. So if Apple does indeed launch its first foldable phone, Samsung could be forced to keep the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 constant in order to remain competitive.
But it’s not an easy decision
Keeping the price stable could be a challenge for Samsung. The rising cost of memory chips and application processors has already prompted the company to increase prices on some other devices, including the Galaxy S26 series. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumored to utilize new technologies for a crease-free display experience, so a price increase was more or less expected.
But to keep costs under control, Samsung is reportedly adjusting its supply chain and sourcing more components from Chinese suppliers for its upcoming foldable device. While this probably doesn’t make it more affordable, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 appears to at least be competitive compared to the foldable iPhone.
