The Renault Bridger Concept is a tough-looking light SUV that will be launched in India from the end of 2027.
It features many design elements borrowed from the larger Renault Duster, including the hidden rear door handles and the shape of the fenders and wheel arch protectors.
The two cars also forgo Renault’s diamond emblem in the grille, opting instead for the Renault wordmark.

Unlike the Duster, the Bridger features much sharper surfaces and details, a floating roof look and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
All in all, the Bridger relies more heavily on its claimed off-road capabilities, although the availability of all-wheel drive has yet to be confirmed. The concept car rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and is equipped with a panoramic glass roof and integrated roof rails.
Since the Bridger is less than four meters long, it only attracts 18 percent GST in India, giving it a significant price advantage over larger vehicles that are subject to 40 percent GST.
Renault already has three cars in the under 4m category: the 3.7m Kwid SUV, the 3.99m Kiger SUV and the 3.99m Triber mini people mover.
It is unclear whether the Bridger will replace any of these models or whether it will be an additional vehicle in the brand’s offering.
Despite its small size, Renault says the Bridger is “extremely spacious inside” with a 400-litre boot and “a (segment) record” knee room of 200mm for those sitting in the back seat. No doubt some of the boot space is thanks to the tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
Unfortunately, the company hasn’t revealed the Bridger’s interior or revealed any powertrain details yet. Renault’s existing cars under 4m are equipped with 800cc and 1.0-litre three-cylinder engines, reaching maximum power of 74kW and 160Nm for the 1.0-litre turbo.
To qualify for India’s 18 percent GST rate, vehicles under 4 m must have engines with a displacement of less than 1.2 liters.
A production version of the Bridger will be launched in India by the end of 2027. It’s unclear whether the SUV is coming to Australia, but Renault says there will be a “gradual rollout to other international markets” once the car lands in Indian showrooms.
