Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has confirmed that Gerry McGovern, who spent more than 20 years at the automaker before he was reportedly unceremoniously fired last December, is back at the company.
website Car design news has reported that an internal email from a JLR employee last week confirmed that Mr McGovern was still working at the company.
However, further details – such as whether he will remain in his current role as Chief Creative Officer – remain unclear.
Mr McGovern was reportedly sacked by JLR in December 2025 after 21 years at the company, where he led design for Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar over several generations.

This included the controversial Type 00 concept, which the company announced would spur the rebirth of the Jaguar brand as a more exclusive and expensive pure electric brand.
In December, JLR denied that Mr McGovern had been removed from his post, following reports from Coach India said he was “escorted from the office.”
“It is untrue that we have terminated Gerry McGovern’s employment and we do not intend to comment further on speculative stories,” a JLR spokesman said Automotive News Europe in an email.
But while the automaker confirmed he wasn’t fired, it also couldn’t confirm the designer’s role – a situation that loud Car design newsseems to be underway.
Mr McGovern remains listed in his role as chief creative officer in the executive arm of the JLR website, with the designer not being removed despite other relatively recent appointments and updates to the site.
These include PB Balaji, who replaced Adrian Mardell as CEO from November 2025 and was reportedly a factor in Mr McGovern’s alleged firing.
Mr McGovern has not yet publicly commented on his position and there are no new social media posts addressing the matter.
