Spotify has a new feature that takes you behind the scenes of your favorite tracks

Spotify is introducing a new feature that offers a new way to learn more about the songs you listen to. The music platform has introduced “About the Song,” a feature that brings stories and context directly into the mobile app listening experience.

Instead of just listening to a song, you can now read short, swipeable cards that explain what inspired the music, fun facts, and behind-the-scenes moments while you stream.

About the Song is available in beta for premium listeners on iOS and Android and is launching in English in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia.

Discover the story behind the songs you love on Spotify

Story cards appear in the Now Playing view for supported titles. Once you open this screen, simply scroll down to find the About Song card, then swipe through the row of cards to explore the track’s story as it plays.

According to Spotify, the stories are aggregated from verified sources to give you more context about the music. You can also provide feedback through the card to help Spotify improve the feature over time.

With this update, Spotify helps you deeply connect with the art and artists behind your favorite tracks. It’s been a busy few days for Spotify as several updates rolled out across the app. Just yesterday, the company announced that users in the US and UK will soon be able to purchase print books directly from Spotify.

The platform also introduced new audiobook tools, including Page Match, which allows listeners to scan a page from a physical book and jump directly to that moment in the audiobook.

Earlier this week, Spotify rolled out song translations globally and added support for offline viewing of lyrics for all users, not just Premium subscribers. You can also try Spotify’s recently introduced Prompted Playlist feature, which lets you create playlists by simply typing a prompt if you live in the US or Canada.
