“The Outsiders” is the best Broadway show I’ve seen in a long time. Tour production is currently underway in Austin and this is a show you won’t want to miss!
“The Outsiders” is outstanding!
I love everything about this show, but let’s start with the cast. In a word: it’s phenomenal. Standout cast members include Nolan White as Ponyboy and Tyler Jordan Wesley as Dallas. Her singing, acting and stage presence will blow you away! The camaraderie of the cast is intense. Although this story is full of fear and trauma, the tenderness and love of men’s friendships will inspire you.
If you know the story, it is clear that it is not necessarily a pleasant one. But there are truly heartwarming and uplifting takeaways from this story written by SE Hinton.
Although I was aware of the series’ accolades (and the fact that it is produced by Angelina Jolie), I went into it somewhat blindly. I was not aware of the music or the translation of the story from the book and the screen onto the stage. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised? The music is catchy and moving and even fun in some places. Somehow I missed the fact that the music was composed by Jamestown Revival from Texas. As a fan of folk music and show music, it’s not shocking that I love all music.
I also love stage production. Although the series is set in the 1960s, it feels very modern and current. There were actually a lot of elements that reminded me of it Stranger Things: The First Shadowcurrently on Broadway. From the choreography of the fights and the rain on stage to the lighting, slow motion and well-timed pauses, the show is truly perfect.
